'ERR 99'....

Yesterday was not a good day!...it was sunny and warm, reaching a high of 14°C...in fact it was  a proper spring day...but it was not a good day!

I went to Verulamium Park and Lake in St. Albans, the main reason for going was to take pictures of the Grey Herons that nest on the small island in the middle of the lake. Unfortunately  as I got to the perfect position for taking photographs my camera decided that it didn't want to play anymore and, after massively over exposing a few shots,  it decided to cry enough and popped up an ERR 99 message on the LCD screen!...So that was it...Game Over!!

A few images taken before the camera died...

This Black-Headed Gull looked like it was trying to make a noise but when it opened it's mouth nothing came out!

What Ice?

A Coot - not fighting for a change!

A Grey Heron delivering nest material.

Tomorrow  I'm taking the camera to the 'fix it man' to see what the prognosis is, hopefully he'll say a couple of quid should fix it!! (I can hope can't I?)

The good news is that Keith, (he's a wonderful chap) while he's away in Wales, has offered to lend me his spare camera until mine is sorted. Thanks Mate..[;o))

My 5D died as well. I think it is a software problem. Could you hear the mirror rise. mine did that but the shutter wouldn't fire. It appears to be a 5D problem which Canon should have sorted by now.

Oh dear! I could hear your heart sinking from here Trevor and the first gull photo said it all. You managed some great pics before its demise though. I hope it turns out not to be fatal or too costly. Good old Keith, he's a great chap :-)

Adrian, it appears that ERR99 is a catch all message, so the problem could be any number of things. The shutter will fire, randomly, maybe once, twice or three times before the error message reappears. It's going to be expensive I guess!...[;o(

Jan, thank you. It started off as a good day!! I'm now resigned to the fact that it's going to be costly to fix, isn't everything these days though?
Yeh, you can always rely on Keith to come to the rescue, he's a good friend to have...[;o)

Thats a shame as your were taking some great shots.
Yes, that Keith is like that you know.

"A few quid", you will be so lucky. Perhaps a "Drop test" in the lake may be a cheaper option and get another one. It does sound rather expensive Trevor.

uh-oh ... can imagine how you felt at the moment you saw the message. You were in the right place but your camera let you down. Hopefully fix-it-man comes up with a reasonable quote

Oh! I have an emotional investment in your camera's ability to work properly. Just so you know. Hope it gets back on track and you two can resume your beautiful collaboration in short order!

Thanks Roy, Yeh, it was a bit of a setback!
He's a good chap is that Keith...That option did cross my mind!...[;o)

Carole, it was a bit of a blow!...I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it won't be too expensive...[;o)

Thanks for the kind thoughts and words Penny...[;o)

Hi Trevor...Well now it is a good thing that didn't happen when you was out to shoot Otters with the old bugger, those things would have shown up for sure then! ; )
Wow..sorry about the camera man that stinks!! Good of Keith (I think he is a real softy with a hard shell LOL) to offer up a camera for you to use!
That gull is yawning I know that because I have been doing that all day...it is a good shot!!

Hi Grace...Yeh, you're probably right about the Otters..lol.
Keith is a good friend to have (I think you've summed him up perfectly!)
Perhaps you and the Gull need more rest..lol
I'm slowly getting to grips with the fact that whatever the outcome is with the camera it's definitely going to hurt my wallet!..[:-{
Perhaps I'll take up knitting, it's gotta be cheaper?...[;o)

That Black-headed Gull is a cracker Trevor.

Hope the repair man can sort out the camera cheaply. Insurance claim maybe?

You are tempted to give it up forever, drat that camera. The same as you, I found that pushing its batteries in and maybe that is the same.
Lovely pictures Trevor.

Thanks Keith. Thanks Bob.

The camera repair is underway. The problem...mangled shutter curtains!
£150 to fix, so not too bad...I'm a bit happier now...[;o)

Thanks Peter. Thanks Andrew.
The repair to the camera should take a couple of weeks...a new shutter mechanism, about £150, so not too bad!!...[;o)
