A few days ago I did a post on the pair of Mandarin Ducks
that I'd found on a small pond in Ashridge Estate in Buckinghamshire, also on
the pond were a pair of Mallard Ducks doing what Mallard Ducks do well... dabbling!
I won't bore you with lots of info on the Mallard as I'm
sure you already know everything there is to know about one of our most
numerous and friendly ducks!
However I couldn't resist taking a few photos and some
video...so I'll bore you with those instead!!

Good to see so much dabbling going on in that video.
And that first shot is a great pose.
Nice pictures Trevor, and the video shows them as dirty feeders.
great film Trevor Dabbling what are they looking for ..food?
Wonderful to see and watch Trevor.
Mallards like the starlings I have shared today are so underrated little birds to see.
Thanks Keith. Yeh, lots of dabbling!...lol...[;o)
Thanks Bob, they certainly liked that muddy water...[;o)
Cheers Peter, Yeh. they were feeding...sifting the Duck Weed and other greenstuff from the water...[;o)
Thank you Andrew, It's good to sometimes take a closer look at the things we see almost every day, yet being so common means that we 'don't see them'. (if that makes sense!!)...[;o)
Mud, mud glorious mud....:-) my goodness, there was some very contented dabbling going on there Trevor. Well captured, I do think it's a shame that some of our lovely birds hardly get mentioned just because we see them so often. Unfortunately, familiarity does breed contempt where some are concerned. Great shots too, did you lie down to get the first one!!?
I missed your Gropper :-( but what a great find, well done! I've heard but not seen them..it sounds like Nature's own road drill to me :-)
Thanks Jan, Yeh they were well contented, not worried by my presence at all! As you say a much overlooked duck, sometimes we don't see the beauty that's right in front of us!
I spent over 2 hours just watching these and the Mandarins, mostly I sat by the edge of the water proped up against a tree but I did lie down (in the mud!) for some shots...[;o)
Wonderful shots and a great video Trevor. I love the wide range of colours in the mallards.
Thanks Ruby...[;o)
